Learn what's changing in Medicare for 2027, from higher Part D drug costs to GLP-1 coverage, before Annual Enrollment ends December 7.

Last updated October 2026

‍

The Short Answer: In 2027, the Part D drug deductible rises to $700 and the yearly limit on what you pay for covered drugs rises to $2,400. Medicare-negotiated prices start on 15 more drugs, and the GLP-1 Bridge for weight-loss drugs continues through 2027. Your plan may also change its costs, drug list, or doctor network, so review it before December 7.

Part D prescription drug costs

Part D is the part of Medicare that helps pay for prescriptions. It comes as a stand-alone drug plan or is built into most Medicare Advantage plans.

  • Higher deductible. The standard deductible, the amount you may pay before your plan starts sharing costs, goes up from $615 to $700. Some plans have a lower deductible or none at all.
  • Higher yearly cap. The most you will pay for covered drugs in a year goes up from $2,100 to $2,400. Once you reach it, you pay nothing more for covered drugs for the rest of the year.
  • Spreading out costs. The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan lets you pay your drug costs in monthly amounts instead of all at once. Ask your plan how to sign up.

GLP-1 medications

Medicare still cannot cover drugs only for weight loss under regular Part D. The temporary Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, which gives eligible people certain GLP-1s for weight management for a $50 monthly copay, now runs through December 31, 2027. Read our full guide to GLP-1 coverage in 2027.

Changes your own plan may make

Even if Medicare rules stay the same, Medicare Advantage and Part D plans can change every year. Look for changes to:

  • Monthly premiums, deductibles, and copays
  • The yearly out-of-pocket maximum for medical care (Medicare Advantage)
  • Which doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies are in the network
  • Which drugs are covered and how much they cost (the formulary)
  • Extra benefits like dental, vision, hearing, or rides to appointments

Your plan was required to mail you an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) by September 30. It lists exactly what is changing for 2027. Some plans are also leaving certain areas. If yours is, you will get a letter explaining your options.

‍

Your 2027 Medicare checklist
  1. Read your Annual Notice of Change from your plan.
  2. Make sure your doctors, including your Hopscotch provider, are still in your plan's network for 2027.
  3. Check that your prescriptions are still covered and what they will cost.
  4. Compare your total yearly costs, not just the monthly premium.
  5. Make any changes by December 7. New coverage starts January 1, 2027.
